Daniel H. Weiss

Dan Weiss, son of Cuban immigrants, has devoted over three decades to public service and legal practice, including 25 years with the U.S. Department of Justice and 8 years as a public defender. He prosecuted landmark human trafficking and forced labor cases, trained law enforcement across the U.S. and abroad, and earned national recognition for protecting vulnerable victims.

He was appointed as a U.S. Immigration Judge in 2016, later serving as Assistant Chief Immigration Judge in Texas and New Mexico, and then as Principal Deputy Chief Immigration Judge, the second-highest position in the immigration court system. He directed seventy-four courts, supervised more than seven hundred judges and nine hundred staff, trained new, experienced, and supervisory immigration judges, and managed a docket exceeding 3.5 million cases.

Dan has received Special Commendation Awards from the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and was recognized by Attorney General Loretta Lynch as an outstanding attorney mentor. He is an Adjunct Professor at SMU Dedman School of Law, where he teaches immigration law.

He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Eastern District of Oklahoma and the Southern District of Texas. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Dan graduated in 1990 from the University of Maryland School of Law and clerked on the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
